A lot of homes have outdoor outlets that are technically functional but not actually set up the right way. No GFCI protection, no weatherproof cover rated for in-use conditions, sometimes just a basic outlet slapped on the exterior wall. It works until it doesn't - and when it fails outdoors, it can be a real safety issue.

When we add or upgrade outdoor power, we go with surface-mount GFCI outlets housed in an extra-duty in-use cover. That cover stays sealed whether something is plugged in or not. That matters a lot when you're running landscape lighting, a water feature, or holiday lights that stay plugged in for weeks at a time through rain, dew, and humidity.

The GFCI itself is the critical piece here. It monitors the electrical current constantly, and if it detects even a small imbalance - the kind that happens when water gets into the mix - it cuts the power in a fraction of a second. That's what keeps people safe. We also verify every outlet with a Klein Tools circuit tester before we're done, so we know the wiring reads correct and the GFCI function is working as it should.

The conduit run keeps the feed wire protected and cleanly routed down to the supply source. Nothing exposed, nothing taped up and hoped for the best. It's the kind of detail that makes the whole setup more dependable season after season - which is exactly the point when you're relying on it for lighting that runs on a timer every night.
