A lot of homeowners have a great backyard setup - nice furniture, a covered patio, good landscaping - but the lighting just isn't there. When the sun goes down, the space becomes an afterthought. That's exactly what we solved for this homeowner in Santaluz near Del Sur.
We installed a run of market lights along the covered patio roofline, strung clean and evenly spaced across the full length of the overhang. The Edison-style bulbs fit right in with the stone columns and Spanish tile roof - nothing about it looks like an afterthought. It looks like it was always supposed to be there.
We also added a new exterior GFCI outlet on the exterior wall to power everything properly and safely. Outdoor outlets need to be GFCI-protected - that's code, and it's there for a reason. Water and electricity don't mix, and a proper GFCI outlet cuts power instantly if something goes wrong. No extension cords running through a cracked door, no jury-rigged solutions.
On top of that, we tied in a dimmer switch so the homeowner has full control over the brightness. Want a bright setup for a dinner party? Done. Want something low and relaxed for a quiet evening outside? Easy. That kind of control makes a real difference in how you actually use the space.
This is the kind of work that looks simple but needs to be done right. Proper wiring, correct outlet protection, clean fixture placement - it all matters. When it comes together, you end up with a backyard that people actually want to spend time in after dark.
